The son of immigrant Chinese parents, William grew up in the ethnically diverse melting pot of New York City, where he played violin in various youth ensembles in a hodge-podge of places ranging from church basements, hotel lobbies, college lecture rooms, to some of the world’s finest concert halls. Using his background in architecture, acoustics, and music William retains his commitment to helping musicians hear one another in all venues.

Growing up in Hawaii, Bill developed a lifelong appreciation of the “Aloha spirit” as well as the First Nation struggles of the Hawaiian people since colonization, and has retained his support of Hawaiian Nation ever since. As a former competitive body-surfer, Bill continued riding his lifelong love of the wave into a career in engineering and acoustics.

In 2022, Bill and William joined together to form Chu & Dohn Associates, where we continue our common goal of helping design beautiful-sounding and beautiful-looking spaces. Every voice deserves a chance to be heard clearly, especially rooms where people gather together to listen to one another.
